Preventative Dental Care: Proper Oral Hygiene & Periodontal Maintenance

Dorval Dental focuses profoundly on preventative dentistry. We believe that good oral hygiene is the best defence against dental health issues like cavities and gum disease. Not only does good oral hygiene both inside and outside the dental office provide cleaner, healthier teeth, but it helps keep problems from spreading, saving you time and money at the dentist.

Brushing & Flossing

We recommend that you brush and floss every day. Brushing is recommended at least twice a day with a soft to medium bristle toothbrush. Flossing complements your brushing by reaching the areas your brush missed, removing plaque and more.

Scheduled Cleanings

Schedule your routine dental cleanings twice a year with Dorval Dental in Toronto. During your dental cleaning consists of removing plaque and tartar through a procedure called scaling, followed by polishing of each tooth. An x-ray may also be taken during this appointment in order to examine areas of your teeth not easily visible by the naked eye.

Periodontal Maintenance

Oral hygiene is also important when it comes to periodontal maintenance. Periodontal disease or gum disease is an infection of the gums that slowly destroys the support around your natural teeth. Since dental plaque is the primary cause of gum disease, daily brushing, and flossing can help prevent the condition from spreading. Regular dental examinations and cleanings are also recommended.
